Orthodontics can make an astonishing improvement in one's appearance as the teeth, jaws and lips become properly aligned. Braces are used to correct a bad bite (malocclusion), a condition in which teeth are crowded, crooked or cases in which the upper and lower jaws may not be properly aligned.
But an attractive smile is just one of the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Proper orthodontic treatment can help to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, bone destruction, chewing, airway and digestive disorders |

Benefits of Orthodontics
The lifelong benefits of orthodontics not only make an impact on your beauty and self confidence, but can prevent more serious, more costly tooth ailments down the road. |
|
Fix crooked & crowded teeth that are hard to clean & maintain. (Straight teeth stay cleaner!)
Creates a beautiful, well-aligned smile and enhances the facial jaw alignment.
Maximizes teeth's functional effectiveness (A more exact bite makes chewing and speaking easier.)
Well-aligned teeth prevent premature ware of tooth enamel and problems with chronic headaches, neck and jaw pain that could develop later.
Helps better process of food by having tooth surfaces well inter-connected.

How Braces work
Most of the pressure comes from a metal wire that goes across the outside of the teeth. Very slowly, this pressure makes the teeth move and become straight. The teeth are repositioned and roots are aligned, providing better support for the crown of the tooth.
Today, “brackets” (the part of the braces that attach to each tooth) are smaller than ever before. They bonded directly to the teeth, making the braces less obvious. A very refined wire technology offers reduced friction and exerts a steady and gentle pressure on the teeth, so that the re-alignment process is faster and more comfortable. Each tooth receives the optimal balance of force necessary. |

At Pacific Dental Bangkok, we provide a number of helpful orthodontic braces to help pre-teens, teens and adults.
Metal Braces - The most popular choice with younger patients, metal brackets are attached to the teeth and tiny rubber bands (ligatures) are used to hold the tiny arch wire onto the brackets. Metal braces are the least expensive of all types of braces. The ligature ties also come in a choice of rainbow colors.
Clear Braces - A popular choice for adults, because the ceramic brackets blend in with the teeth and are less noticeable. Made from high-tech ceramic, the brackets are smooth around the edges producing a comfortable fit. The brackets are strong and generally do not stain. The ligatures (tiny rubber bands) that hold the arch wire on to the ceramic brackets are white or clear. Ligatures are changed each time you get an adjustment - usually, monthly.
Damon / Self-Litigating Braces - Damon brackets allow the wire to slide back and forth on their own, eliminating the use of elastic ligatures that hold the arch wires in place. Fewer adjustments are required (generally every two months) and treatment time is generally reduced because teeth can move into position more efficiently. Discreet and comfortable, Damon braces are also easier to keep clean.
Invisalign Braces - Effective for patients who do not have severe problems. The braces consist of a series of strong, clear plastic polymer teeth overlays/trays that are custom made for each patient. You would be able to get your teeth straightened without anyone noticing.
Lingual (behind the teeth) Braces - Made from metal, Lingual braces are placed behind your teeth, and are therefore virtually invisible to other people. The obvious benefit of this type of treatment is that no one will know that you are wearing braces unless they look inside your mouth! |

The cost of treatment is spread over the entire period of treatment, which is typically two years. The cost depends on the age of the patient, the degree of the problem and the duration of time required. Although each case is different, generally, a patient will wear braces for two years. Bite problems and crooked teeth develop between the ages of 6 and 12, as a child's permanent teeth are erupting. It is recommended that your child receives an orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven. Most children begin their orthodontic treatment between the ages of 9 and 16.
Orthodontic treatments during the teen years may help prevent bite and possible gum and jaw problems that can develop in later years. Because teens are still growing, the teen years are the best time to correct orthodontic problems to achieve optimum results.
Teens gain confidence and self-esteem. If gone untreated, they may face emotional challenges relating to an unattractive smile.

It's never too late to correct any problems occurring from bad bites and crooked teeth and to have a beautiful, healthy smile! The process of re-aligning the teeth is the same at any age; however, because jaw and facial bones are no longer growing, corrections may not be achievable with braces alone. An adult's treatment usually takes a little longer than a child's. |
