Primary or “Baby” Teeth are very important
It is just as important to maintain the health of all 20 primary teeth as it is the permanent teeth. Primary teeth are not just temporary teeth that will fall out. They help children speak clearly, eat properly, talk, smile and feel good about themselves.
Healthy primary teeth also help form a path for the permanent teeth to follow and grow properly and beautifully. Cavities are painful and cause children to have difficulty eating, stop smiling, and have problems paying attention and learning at school.
Protect your child’s teeth from cavities
Tooth decay is an infection that can be prevented. Cavities need to be filled to relieve pain and allow children to eat, talk and smile confidently. Safeguarding against bacteria and cavities will help the yet undeveloped permanent teeth develop properly and remain healthy. In order to prevent cavities and other dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist every 6 months, starting when the first tooth appears.
Effective methods for cavity prevention
Fluoride Application
Fluoride application helps strengthen the teeth and prevent tooth decay. The process is very simple and application is advisable every 6 months, or according to the dentist’s recommendation.
Sealant
Sealants fill in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth as well as small gaps in between the teeth that are common in young children. Sealants prevent food particles that get caught in the teeth that can be difficult to remove by brushing the teeth. Sealants make the teeth easier to brush and help prevent tooth decay. The application is fast, comfortable and can effectively protect the teeth for many years.
Your child’s first visit to the dentist
Begin when the first tooth appears. This is the perfect time for the dentist to start examining the development of your child’s teeth, mouth and gums. Children can get cavities as soon as the first teeth appear. They can also have dental growth problems like crooked teeth or a bad bite. Our pediatric dentists can provide preventive care and treatments to help maintain you child’s healthy smile.
